What is a CHESS depositary interest or CDI?
The electronic transfer system used on ASX, known as 'CHESS', cannot be used directly for the transfer of securities of foreign companies. Accordingly, to enable companies such as Simavita to have their securities cleared and settled electronically through CHESS, depositary instruments called CHESS Depositary Interests (CDIs) are issued.
For those investors familiar with the concept of American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), CDIs are an Australian equivalent of an ADR.
What does CDS mean?
CDS refers to Canadian Depository for Securities Limited. Canada's national securities depository, clearning and settlement hub.
What is a DRS?
DRS refers to Direct Registration Statement. This bascially means the shares are held electronically rather than in certificate format. In order to add electronic shares to a Foreign Dealing Account (FDA) you must send in your DRS statement for the holding.
